Teddy’s Knives represents modern British bladesmithing at its finest — handmade kitchen knives built for performance, balance, and longevity.
Each knife is crafted by hand using carefully chosen steels, precise heat treatment, and clean geometry, resulting in blades made for real kitchen work.
Produced in small numbers, the focus is always on quality over quantity. Hand-finished details and subtle variations ensure every knife carries its own character.
These are knives designed to feel responsive, comfortable, and dependable in daily use.
Limited one- and two-day bladesmithing courses are available for those wanting a deeper appreciation of the craft.
A selection of Teddy’s Knives can be viewed and purchased at The Shiny Blade Showroom, where you can experience the balance, finish, and sharpness in hand.

Meet the Maker
Knife making for me isn’t about trends. It’s about craftsmanship, constant improvement, and creating tools people genuinely enjoy using. Every knife reflects that journey.
I’d always had an interest in knives, but things really clicked once I started making very simple knives using basic tools. The real turning point came when I realised I could achieve hamons in my blades. I absolutely love them. They take more work, but when you get one exactly how you want it, there’s a real sense of pride that’s hard to beat.
I don’t think I’ve settled on a style yet, and I’m not sure I ever will. I’m still developing and learning all the time. If quality can be considered a style, then that’s what I aim for above everything else.
Some days are spent teaching experience days, which I genuinely love. I actually prefer teaching and spending time with students in the workshop to working alone. Sharing what I do and meeting great people along the way is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
I’ve perfected nothing — and I’m working to improve everything.
That ongoing learning process is part of what keeps the craft interesting.
It was more about function than appearance. I hard-tested one of my early knives, made using a basic BBQ coal forge and a hairdryer. When I realised I’d nailed the heat treatment using only the colour of the steel and a magnet, it was a big moment. I put that knife through serious abuse and it held up brilliantly.
Since then, I’ve refined my process significantly. With controlled variables — heat, oil, steel — and better equipment, I can now achieve a consistent, reliable heat treat every time.
I don’t overthink it. I trust my eye and my sense of proportion. I’ll start with a fundamental decision — whether the knife will be a full tang or hidden tang — then choose materials that work with the steel and overall idea.
I rarely measure or fully plot designs beyond a basic blade outline in marker. Working this way keeps things flexible and allows the knife to develop naturally as I go.
The day is a fully hands-on experience, working side by side with me in the workshop. Participants are actively involved throughout the process, learning the techniques while creating their own knife in a relaxed, collaborative atmosphere.
We spend the day chatting, listening to music, and working together, and by the end they leave with a knife they’ve personally made and are genuinely proud of.
There’s a lot out there marketed as “handmade” that really isn’t. Because of that, when someone holds one of my knives for the first time, they’re often genuinely surprised at how refined and professional a true handmade knife can be. The same applies to many skilled makers across the UK and beyond.
Pride of ownership.
A sense of something special.
Real value.
And above all, a great user experience — it has to function impeccably.
Simply to continue earning a living teaching and making knives, and to keep having the privilege of meeting amazing people through my work.
